Airbas Transportation, Inc.

Airbas Transportation Inc. was created in the State of Texas, USA on June 26, 2002 and started business operations In November of 2002. Airbas was founded in the United States for the purpose of gaining advantage in doing business as an American company with the US Armed Forces in Iraq and elsewhere in the Middle East. The shares of the company were equally owned by Richard Chichakli and Sergey Bout, who first met in 1995 when Richard Chichakli was working on creating Sharjah free zone while Sergey was working with his brother in the UAE.

Upon the completion of registration of Airbas Transportation Inc. in the state of Texas, the company applied for licensing in Sharjah Airport International Free Zone (SAIF-Zone) and received approval to commence operations as a charter service provider. Immediately upon receiving the approval of the free zone, and in order to avoid loosing the window of available opportunity while awaiting the lengthy processing and approvals to receive an AOC from the Civil Aviation Authority in the Emirates, the management of Airbas attempted to acquire controlling share in Irbis Air Company, an already licensed air operator for the purpose of placing the aircraft on Irbis certificate and commence operations.  An agreement for code-sharing was reached with Irbis by the end of October 2002 allowing Airbas to commence operation under Irbis call-sign by the end of November of 2002.   See the timeline of existence of Airbas Transportation

The late Capt. Victor Lebedev, a 40-years veteran of the aviation industry, was appointed to manage the operations of Airbas Transportation in the UAE from the beginning until the termination of business.
